March 30 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The members of the Choir invite you to join them at the High Altar on Thursday, March 30, at 6:30 PM for the ancient office of Night Prayer—Compline. This service will not feature a choir performance, but do plan to sit among the members of the choir and join them in the simple chants and song.
This sublime service of ”Prayer at the End of the Day” draws on psalms and canticles with prayer with which we commend ourselves and our lives into the hands of God in Christ for safety and peace. The service comes to a high point in the Responsory dialogue after the reading in which, drawing on the Lord’s words from the cross from Psalm 31, we pray, “Into thy Hands, O LORD, I commend my Spirit.” The service continues with the Gospel Canticle, the Nunc dimittis in which the aged Simeon acclaims, having fulfilled his encounter with the Messiah in the infant Jesus, “Lord, lettest thou thy servant now depart in peace.”
