Singing is twice praying.— St. Augustine
The human voice, the instrumental voice, Anglican hymns, African-American spirituals, Bach on the
Cathedral organ made by the Boston-based Aeolian-Skinner Company or gospel music on the guitar—all are vibrant expressions of music as a fundamental form of worship at Christ Church Cathedral.
In addition to our own Cathedral choirs for adult and children’s voices, our services feature congregational singing and musical offerings by our members and by guests, both professionals and gifted amateurs.
Our extraordinary Cathedral Choir sings the Choral Eucharist on Sundays at 10 a.m. under the direction of Canon Precentor William Partridge, organist and choirmaster. The choir performs at Evensong, at the great celebrations of the liturgical calendar and at special Diocesan services.
The Choir practices on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. Its members include professional sectional leaders as well as volunteers, each of whom have considerable musical background and training. On Oct. 17, 2004, the Choir was honored to perform at "Missouri Day" at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. (See photo at left.)
