Christ Church Cathedral continues to work with Winter Outreach, a volunteer organization that provides emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness. The Cathedral staffs a shelter at St. Paul’s UCC Church in South City on Wednesday nights when forecasted temperatures drop below 25 degrees. Volunteers can sign-up to be “on call” for various days throughout the winter.
There are several roles for which you can volunteer:
- Greeters welcome the guests, make them comfortable, serve dinner, and provide a safe and caring environment during the evening.
- Innkeepers maintain a quiet and restful environment throughout the night and distribute breakfast and bus tickets in the morning.
- Clean Up/Set Up crews clean up and set up the shelter after the guests have left.
- Casserole Makers prepare hearty and healthy meals for the guests and greeters.
